Planned Parenthood told me to take birth control this way, is this okay?

No, it works for all birth control. What happens is because the body is not quite used to pills, taking birth control without a break will cause some breakthrough bleeding...that and women feel it is healthy to have a period even though on birth control you don't get a real period. This is why there is a seasonal birth control (four periods a year) and a monthly birth control. But all birth control works that same. Like seaonsique you may experience breakthrough bleeding, a light period here and there that may be random and unexpected, this will stop happening over time. But it will work over time.
