Is my chinchilla going through a chewing faze?

The first few weeks I had him he didn't chew on ANYTHING now everything he finds he has to nibble on and I mean EVERYTHING. Is he going through a chewing faze or is it just cause he's a rodent? ( I had mice but they didn't chew on much either)
