Car wont start no spark?

Changed fuel filter and primed then started and the next time went to start it wouldn't.. Went to see if it had spark and pulled number 1 spark wire off and it fired up without the wire on the plug? 1998 nissan pathfinder had it arcing and it started without it on the plug and shut it off and put the wire back on and nothing and now no, spark?
